The world of cinemas has risen with new and innovative entertainment programmes, and along with it, the viewership has also diversified and increased overall. Movies must make money to cover their overheads and also make some profit in the bargain. Ranging from international cinema genres to our very own favourite Bollywood, 2019 has seen some huge money-makers which we can see in the box office collection. Let us take a look at a few of those booming movies that broke all records while some didn’t quite hit the mark.
Bala, Houseful 4, Satellite Shankar and Bypass road were the recently released movies this month. The former two were official blockbusters with Houseful 4 even becoming the 88th Hindi language film to enter the 100 crore net club. Sadly, the other two were relatively disastrous and didn’t quite make their mark with Bypass Road making only one crore while its making cost was 20 crores!
The total Bollywood box office collection in 2019 has been 6028.82 crores, making it a good year for the movie industry as a whole. Out of this, the total Hindi net amount was Rs.3663.52 crores, the total Hindi gross amount was Rs.4802.54 crores, and the total overseas box office collection was Rs.1058.11 crores.
A considerable number of international movies have also done well, but Bollywood continues to break all records. Some other super hit movies such as Batla house, Chhichhoreand Article 15 have added to the overall box office collections. Gully Boy has even gone one notch ahead and gotten itself nominated for the Oscars in 2020 in the Best International feature film category.
Often movies that get a strong opening due to various reasons end up scoring high on the box office collections. However, sometimes, smaller budget movies which do not receive the same enthusiasm, also surprise us by rapidly becoming popular due to word-of-mouth publicity and eventually a box office success.
