Sachin’s Biopic: A Box Office Hit

Directed by James Erskine, this docu-drama which was much awaited by all Sachin fans has been attracting thousands to the theatre screens in the last few days. Read any latest Bollywood movie review and you are bound to find all critics as well as the audience applauding the cast and crew’s joint efforts in making this endeavor a success.
Sachin: A Billion Dreams

Sachin: A Billion Dreams is special because it shows the God of Cricket himself, sharing his most personal and emotional experiences which were hitherto unknown. A true Sachin fan would not only find the film sincere but also as a medium to relive all those fan moments right from the time Sachin became a country-wide sensation in the 90s. Taking audience away from the 22 yards cricket pitch, the watertight screenplay makes way into the personal life of Sachin, right from the time he was born, he was named Sachin after his parents’ admiration for Sachin Dev Burman, his most vulnerable moments, the indescribable moment when he held his daughter Sara for the first time in his hands and many more heart touching experiences.
Some have, however, raised disappointment with respect to the over glorifying of the idol and the plain avoidance of the cricketer’s views on controversies surrounding him or his colleagues like the Monkey Gate scandal and the Ferrari customs duty case. Flaws are what make a person human and therefore a genuine attempt at the cricketer’s imperfections would have made this biopic a masterpiece. But all said, one simply cannot undermine the hold Sachin has over his fans. The chants of Sachin… Sachin… reverberating to the melody of Oscar winning music director AR Rahman will give goose bumps to anyone idolizing the Master Blaster.
The film is different from earlier biopics made on cricketers like M.S. Dhoni and Mohammad Azharuddin; the most significant element being Sachin himself playing his character. Fans of the cricketer do not need a reason to watch this film but for others, a look at how one person realized his wings to fly and soar high on the sheer strength of hard work and determination would be an unforgettable experience.

Since the film hit the theatre screens on Friday, it has already collected a total of close to 32 crores at the box office; a huge profit considering the documentary styled film’s production cost would have been meager. The latest Bollywood movie ratings clearly demonstrate the power of someone as influential as Sachin in a country that has made him a sort of demigod.
