Emraan Hashmi is one of those actors in Bollywood that have established their mettle through their talent and outstanding performances in movies one after the other. The actor has received around three film fare nominations and is considered as one of the more established actors working in the film industry today. It wasn’t an easy start for the actor. He had his fair share of films that were panned by the critics but things took a turn for the good with his performance as a conman in Jannat.
It was the year 2008 that marked a turning point with Jannat. The role of a conman donned by Hashmi was so well played that both the audiences and the critics were bowled over. Over the years he gained recognition for getting into the skin of many unconventional characters in a number of successful films. Some of these films included including the horror Raaz: The Mystery Continues which was released in the year 2009, the biographical drama The Dirty Picture which came out in 2011, the psychological thriller Murder 2 which was released in the year 2011. The list goes on and on and the films that he signed over the years were diverse in the genre and each character much different from the last.
The romantic comedy Dil Toh Baccha Hai Ji which came out in 2011 was very different than what Hashmi portrayed in the crime thriller Jannat 2 which was subsequently released in 2012 along with thriller Raaz 3 which also came out in 2012 and dealt with supernatural and occult stuff.
The precedent set by him continued with films like Ek Thi Daayan released in 2013, all of which earned him even more appreciation from the critics and audiences alike.
But, the nominations did not come until much later. It was Hashmi's acclaimed performance in Milan Luthria’s drama Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai and Dibakar Banarjee’s political thriller Shanghai that got him nominations for best supporting actor.
With all of that in the past, it has been sometime since we have seen anything new from the actor. The latest, Captain Nawab is about to hit the theatres soon, and in this he will be playing a spy who finds himself in trouble when both the countries come to know that he betrayed them. The plot seems exciting enough and I certainly will be looking forward to his latest.
Summary: Hashmi is one of the finest actors in the industry today and owing to that we explore all that he has done and what awaits in the future.
