For movie fans in India, October has always been the high point of movie viewing. More precisely, it is the Diwali time, and most big banners wait to release their movies then to cash in on the festive fervour that also reflects in high footfall in movie theatres. October 2019 has been no different. It was a month which saw the release of some worth watching movies in different languages in a range of genres. Let us see what was, and is continuing now.
Joker :
A disturbingly horrifying film, Joker is about a failed, misunderstood and mistreated stand-up comedian, who embarks on a path of crime. Thus begins his journey of a downward spiral leading to blood and gore, bringing him face to face with his alter-ego, the Joker in Gotham City. Directed by Todd Phillips and enacted by Joaquin Phoenix, Robert Di Niro and Zazie Beetz, it is a must-see.
A big movie in Tamil, it narrates the saga of the triumph of spirited women in sports. Enacted by Vijay as the coach, Bigil inspires a Women’s football team to succeed against all odds ala Chak De India. Music by AR Rahman is another stand out in the movie.
A biopic is emerging from Johri, a village in Uttar Pradesh; the film finally delivers an inspiring message about women’s emancipation. Ably enacted by Bhumi Pednekar and Tapsee Pannu, it narrates how two sisters-in-law Chandro and Prakashi Tomar break out of patriarchy dominated society to emerge international champion shooters.
It is a poignant story based on Aisha Chaudary, a motivational speaker diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis. Brilliantly enacted by Priyanka Nick Jonas, Farhan Akhtar and Zaira Wasim, the love tale spans 25 years through the eyes of the daughter Aisha.
